Turtle Day April 30, 2011

Image
Today I volunteered at the 9th Annual Turtle Day program in Ponce Inlet at the Marine Science Center. I was a greeter for the event which was free to the public. Today the center was letting two sea turtles back into the wild, one had been with them for over three years. The program had about 600 hundred people show up during the time I was there, I became very practiced at putting wristbands on visitors. When I took a break from greeting I walked around the center and spent time at the touch tank, they had sting rays in the tank that we could touch. I was able to touch a couple of them and they felt like silky leather it was rather strange. There was one sting ray that liked to splash water in the visitors face which was pretty funny. It was a great experience and I hope to help out next year at the 10th annual one. <3 Miss West Volusia

Daytona Cubs Baseball Game April 27th

Image
Wednesday, I had the honor to throw the first pitch out at the Daytona Beach Cubs game, they were in a series against Tampa. I was one of six people to throw out the pitch but I was the 'first' first pitch of the evening. I'm excited to say that I got the ball over the plate. I would say my pitch technique is more curve than straight forward. It was a great opportunity for me to get my name out there as well as the Florida USA system as well. I did have a couple parents coming up to ask me how to get their daughters involved, which is always an honor to refer them to the Miss Florida USA website. Until next time, <3 Miss West Volusia USA

Easter Beach Run

Image
This morning I participated in the Daytona Beach Leisure Services Annual Easter Beach Run at the Main Street Pier. There was the option of the four mile and the two mile, I chose the two mile since I had never run on the sand before. Let me tell you that this was a great workout and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a way to have fun and workout at the same time. There were a ton of participants, I found out this has been going on since 1967. I will for sure do this again next year and be ready since there are medals to be won. I competed the race in a little under 23 minutes which is good. I received a pamphlet for the SPARC run on May 7th and I'm highly considering doing that one as well. Next week I'll be at the Oyster Festival as well as Miss Orlando. Until then Have a great weekend and a Happy Easter. <3 Miss West Volusia

I was honored to participate in the Fatone Family Foundation Second Annual Chillounge in Orlando. The charity event raises money for music therapy for children with cancer. This is an amazing cause and if you have the opportunity please support there are a couple more going on this year including one coming up in Tampa relatively soon. Myself, Rachel Jardine your new Miss Tampa Teen USA,Stephanie Ziajka Miss Pinellas County, as well as the fabulous Megan Clementi your Miss Florida USA 2010. We had a blast and were the guest of honors. We were carried around for the day bed parade through out the event after it started. It was a real attention getter. Here are some photos of me and the girls before and after the event.

Mutt Strut March 26, 2011

Image
Standing with my cause I participated in the first annual Mutt Strut put on by the Halifax Humane Society in Port Orange. I felt very close to this project seeing how I adopted my dog Chloe from the Halifax Humane Society a little over a year a ago. The event was a 5k and had about 500 owners and their best friends walking and raising money. The humane society is 501c3 organization and runs off of donations of dog and cat food, volunteer hours and monetary donations. The event raised $20,000 that day which is awesome. I hoping to take part in the next one next year.
